In 1977, at age 26, Robyn Davidson left from outside Alice Springs to walk west to the Indian Ocean, accompanied by four camels and a dog. After 9 months and 2,835 kilometres she finished the trek at Hamelin Pool, north of Geralton, WA. Rick Smolan accompanied Robyn on certain stages to photograph her journey for National Geographic.
