Crowds cram the shores of Sydney Harbour in the 1920’s to watch the 18-footer competition, championed by Mark Foy (1865-1950) the developer and Commodore of the Sydney Flying Squadron. Both Britannia (red ensign) and Yendys (anchor) in the right foreground are on display at the Australian National Maritime Museum (Wharf 7, Maritime Heritage Centre, Sydney).

The Statue of Liberty under construction in Paris in about 1885. The statue was a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States to commemorate the centenary of Independence. When completed in Paris, it was disassembled and shipped to New York; then reassembled and dedicated in October 1886. About 4 million people visit the statue every year.
