Marcel Duchamp (76) and a nude Eve Babitz (20) play chess at the Duchamp Retrospective at the Pasadena Art Museum in October 1963. The story is that Babitz agreed to the photos to shock Walter Hobbs, the curator/producer of the Retrospective, who had failed to give her a ticket to the opening party (despite the two being former lovers). In January 1994, Russia (via then-President Yeltsin) signed the Budapest Memorandum recognising Ukraine’s unique “territorial integrity”. The other signatories were President Clinton and Ukrainian President Kravchuk. None of this matters in The Ukraine War unleashed by President Putin on 24 February 2022. A spotted quoll, Australia’s tree-climbing, den-dwelling, carnivorous marsupial (babies reared in a pouch) about the size of a small domestic cat. They became extinct on the Australian mainland about 50 years ago but some colonies have been reintroduced back there, under controlled conditions, in recent years. The origins of this image are unknown but it may be a photo taken of two competitors in the round-Australia Redex reliability trials that started and finished in Sydney. The first Redex trial in 1953 was over a distance of 6,500 miles (10,500 km) and later ones were over longer distances. The number plate on the vehicle appears to be from New South Wales (NSW).

The barque Europa under full sail, including studding sails (pronounced “stunsails”) which are additional sails set outside the square sails of the ship. They are only used in fine weather when the wind is directly from behind. Europa was built in Hamburg in 1911 but was bought to The Netherlands and completely refurbished there by 1994. Europa is well-travelled throughout the world as a sail training vessel and for those seeking an authentic sailing experience. See www.barkeuropa.com
